The mystery of Glenns bar
Ok Heh, im sorry, I haven't had much time to sit down and compute. But here goes..It snowed on new years day. And continued for about 4 days straight, but since then it hasnt snowed and the suns come back. It been one of the warmest winters on record. It was 18 degrees today :( not good for boarding.
The other people here are very cool. Everyones between the ages of 18 and 25 (apart from heads of staff) so we all get along real well. I share a room with two other guys, Struan and Matt, in a sorta apartment that is across the road from the hotel.
The work is good. generally I peel vegies, cook vegies, do odd jobs, and sometimes help the KP's (kitchen porters ie. dish pigs) in the wash up room. I work a 48 hour week but theresd still heaps of time to ski. i have all day thurs fri and sat to ski, and on other days about 4 hours at lunch.
I just bought a board yesterday!! So today was my first day boarding!! I picked up the basics pretty quickly though and I LOVE IT! so much fun.
Cause snowboarding is cooler.
We are all crazy party animals that seem to go out every night. except on saturdays cause we start at 4am on a sunday. (and i finish at 11pm)
But i think i wont be going out as much now cause i have to pay off my board.
Thats where glenns bar has come into play. basically we just buy drinks at the supermarket we all sit in the accomodation and drink there. And im the barman.
We are also starting a rumour amoungst the locals that glenns bar actually is a proper place. But no one knows or can remember how to get there.
Theres other stuff in the town like a swiming pool, gym, ice rink, bars, pubs, clubs, drinking places, pubs, bars, restaurants, pubs and a few bars. And glenns bar.
And my french isnt gonna get better cause theres so many engligh tourists and workers.
OK. hope thats been good enough sis.

Hi Glenn,
Thank you, a real post at last!(And thank you Heather who made it happen). Perhaps Glenn's bar needs to close once a week so he can send a message to his family and friends. Glad you're enjoying the skiing/snowboarding, just don't get too overconfident.
Dad thanks you for the belated birthday wishes,
Love Mum & Dad XXOO
Hey man good post. Man I rekon you should start putting up some flyers around town for glenn's bar. hehe and you can leave them in the lobby and start the charade of actually having a bar!
Or better yet, Charge admission to your apartment! even your roommates!
Think of the headlines!
sik one man.
What kind of board did you get?
Keep the snow reports comming. I hope it gets better!
Ok, thanks bro. Now I have a much better picture in my head of what its like! So you're a step up from a dish pig? That's good! It all sounds very fun! Have you invented any good cocktails?
Just be careful in that slushy snow. Don't wear wristguards because a broken elbow is much worse than a broken wrist. You can still board with a broken wrist, but then the problem is that if you have another bad fall you will break the elbow too, at the top of the cast. But Then you are just where you would be if you had worn the wrist guards and broken the elbow in the first place, but with some extra boarding in between.
Send another post soon! Love H.
hmm... Heather - wouldn't the chances of breaking an elbow be the same whether or not one wears a wrist guard?
p.s. Hi Glenn!
No. Increased chance of elbow fracture if wearing wrist guard, because the wrist can't absorb the shock, instead the bone breaks at the top of the guard.
eww, i cant stand even thinking about broken bones. i dont mind blood or anything, but ever since my neighbour fell off his verandah about 15 years ago, broke his arm and had bone poke out of his arm, i get all grossed out by broken bones...
so tell me, why is it recommended that people wear wrist guards if it increases your chances of breaking your elbow... can you wear elbow guards? i just don't understand :(
Back in my roller blading days wrist guards saved me about a million times. Quite a few times I broke the wrist guards from falling so hard. But better to snap the plastic than break an arm. So I say they are good.
But even better for snowboarding would be some padded shorts. The amount of times I've caught an edge and gone flying through the air to land hard on the tail bone. Not fun at all!
look, i dont have far to fall to hit the ground so thats not a problem :)
nah seriously, you seem to hit the ground so much harder on a board than on skis. but it just makes you tougher :)
