Photos of various stuff to keep my fans happy..
In Belgium where the beer is cheap.
In Heidelburg, Germany, where the beer is brewed in HUGE kegs.
Big cathedral in Cologne.
Apparently if you hold the feet of this donkey, make a wish, get some one to take a picture of you, and look like a complete dickhead, your wish will come true. (That is, if your wish is to become a stupid tourist)
The pretty town of Ribe, Denmark, where the houses are so old they sink into the ground and have become all warped. (Dad would have had a feild day with his spirit level.)
And Gothemburg, Sweden.
All over Sweden...
'It seems for the last couple of days all we've been doing is catching trains around sweden..'
Thats because for the last couple of days all we have been doing is catching trains around sweden.
Well its kinda because accomodation is hard to find so we booked one night in Malmo, then one night in Gothemburg, and now one night in this particular place in Stockholm.. and then 2moro we are going to another backpackers in stockholm.. a lot of moving around and not much sightseeing. Plus the rain puts a damper on things... (hah literaly)
Gothemburg was a very pretty city, would have liked to spend a bit more time there, plenty of parks, canals, and very european style buildings lining the streets.
Saw X-men yesterday, it was pathetic.
Viking town!
In a small town of Denmark called Ribe (pronounced REEB).
This town is one of the oldest towns in scandanavia and dates back to the year 800 and something.
Except theres no more vikings around here anymore.. They've all been confined to museums.
(well excpet for me that is)
What's a Kroner?
Well we arrived in Copenhagen yesterday afternoon, after travelling on a train which drove onto a huge ferry in order to cross the ocean.. pretty crazy stuff.
But now we are having problems with the currency.
You see the Danish dont have the Euro, they have the Danish Kroner, which is confusing us a bit, and, we realise that everything here in Denmark is very, very expensive.
For example last night we walked around Copenhagen and decided to go into a bar for a drink. Little did we know that it would literally be ONE drink that we'd be getting, as 2 beers and a glass of chardonay cost 160 kroner, which is about $35-$40.
But then again these prices might only be representative of Copenhagen, which is good for us because as we couldn't find any more accomodation, we will be travelling back across the country today to a little old villiage called Ribe.
And then after that its Sweden. Then Norway. Then down to Berlin to visit Luke.
Spamburg
Well we are now in Hamburg.
Can't say its the prettiest city, or that theres much to do in this town, especially since the weather has been bad.
But, I got my hair cut today! First time ive been to a hairdressers in about 8 years!! Was a bit strange seeing as the lady spoke no english.
Wen't out to a club last night with some germans from the hostel. Even on a monday night the place was packed! Those Germans know how to party.
Bremen
Well what to say?
It was raining yesterday so not much happened and today we find out that germany likes to shut down on a sunday, meaning my awaited visit to the becks brewery could not go ahead.
Oh well.
At least the hostel we´re staying in has cooking facilities, which means we are eating like kings!
.. Did anyone see the eurovision song contest? watched it last night, It was hilarious. Even funnier when you see the winning act... (hey cossie, thats what our bands gonna be like)
eurovision - check it out
Woah.. have i been asleep for a few days??
Well no i haven't, ive just been a bit sick (literally) and couldnt be bothered updating.
But I'm still alive, don't worry Mum..
After Belgium we caught the train across the border into Heidelburg, Germany (aah! ze Germans!!) , which is a pretty little touristy town that has this great big castle on the hillside looking over the town.
Apparently this is the castle that "inspired the castle from cinderella", or snow white, or something like that, but im not sure what that means exactly, as this castle has half fallen down, and i couldnt see much of a resemblence to a disney castle..
But anyways its a nice little story that this town has to go by, much nicer than the hostel we stayed at... but thats another story.
So yesterday we packed our bags and caught the train up the Rhine to Colonge, or Köln or however its spelt.
Here there is a massive church right next to the main train station, and I mean massive.
Its the biggest roman catholic church in germany, or europe, or the world, im not quite sure what, but hey it must be the biggest church in colonge at least.
This thing is so big that it overshadows every other tourist attraction in the city, I mean, theres no other tourist attraction in the city but this church.
So after we climbed one of the church towers today, which is a fair way up ( 500 steps, not sure how many metres) weve pretty much done all there is to do in colonge, apart from visit more camping stores, and make more "nice smelling" jokes... Ha.. ha.. geddit? (Ill let you think about that one for a second..)
So... whats next on the angenda??? Hmm..
Tommorrow we are going to Bremen.
This is a town where they make Becks beer.. I will be sampling some.
Then we will be heading up to Hamburg and then North from there.. Perhaps, sweden?
Tchüss!!
Not much to say today..
But ill put up a post anyway, just to keep mum happy..
Oh.. and happy mothers day Mum!!
Belgium - Land of Beer
Well amsterdam was some fun, a bit expensive though.
Went to the heiniken factory, which wasnt really a factory and would be a complete ripp off if they didnt give you 3 beers, and we rode around in the canals on a paddle bike, looking like complete fools..
So after that we jet-setted off (caught the train) to Belgium.
Stayed in antwerp the first night and then Brussels last night, now we are in Bruuge.
Aparently theres a bar here which has over 400 types of beer.. i'll do my best to sample them all..
The rest of japan.. in photos
Here are some more photos..

Oh, Heres a Bullet train. They go as fast as they look.
Well theres canals and beer and hookers...
Oh, and lotsa shops selling magic mushrooms, Thats "the damm".
I found dave and tegan, (they were in a strip club of course, where else?), and have managed so far not to be mugged (touch wood).
In other news, beer is expensive, breakfast was warm bread, muggers try to be friendly and theres plenty of people drinking pints at ten in the morning.
(I think its time to visit the heiniken factory dont you?)
Woo Hoo!!
Well im flying away this evening to arrive in the quaint little town of amsterdam...
Ill be trying to meet up with dave and tegan, except i dont know where they are staying, could be tricky.. Amsterdam couldn't be too big, ill just walk around the streets shouting "DAVE WHERE ARE YOU?" and ill be sure to find him...
But if you read this today daveman (today being wednesday) email me with some sorta meeting up point...
And ill be trying to put some photos up when i find an internet cafe that lets me (some dont let you use cds you see)
